Many of the reservoirs in Indiana, like Lake Monroe, are
under the control of the US Army Corps of Engineers and
are used to help with flood control in our rivers. The lake
levels fluctuate with the need for flood control and tend to
be high in the spring, normal in summer and low in winter.
This rule isn't always true but is more so than not. You can
bet that if the rivers are flooded then the dams are locked up
tight to hold the excess water to prevent further flooding.
Cagles Mill Reservoir, also called Cataract Lake is shown here
in this picture taken from the dam in the fall of 2004.
Richard Lieber State Recreation Area is located on the east
side of this lake and offers camping, picnicking, and water
sports. Boat ramps, boat docks, and consessions are available
in season. Cataract Falls SRA is located at the upper end of
Cagles Mill Reservoir and offers hiking, fishing, picnicking and
sightseeing.
